The Consultant Pharmacist in conjunction with the Director of Care or Designate will organize regular (minimally quarterly) on-site education programs tailored to the needs of the home. Topics may include and are not limited to: information on specific medications, review of pharmacy processes or medical condition. These will be offered at convenient times for the home personnel in order to encourage maximum attendance. Provision of orientation and training of the pharmacy system and policies and procedures may also be scheduled for new staff as needed.
Classic Care Pharmacy's Clinical Nurse will support the Consultant Pharmacist with educational events and provide an array of clinics for the benefit of the home residents, staff and volunteers. Clinics provided include: blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring. Our Clinical nurse is available for consultation, in-services and meetings as requested by the home.
8-10 dinner lectures and an annual nursing conference are scheduled annually by Classic Care Pharmacy and are free of charge. These programs offer educational opportunities and give nurses a chance to network with their peers and meet the Classic Care Pharmacy staff.
Classic Care Pharmacy prepares and distributes a monthly educational package for each home. The package includes a newsletter (link to newsletters) covering various topics on drug information, nursing practice and useful news flashes and a calendar highlighting reminders of upcoming activities and events.
An extensive video library is available for the homes' personnel to borrow as needed. These may be requested by directly contacting the pharmacy or by writing in the Drug Record Book. Classic Care Pharmacy has current subscriptions to a Drug Information Service in order to have access to all current drug information and updates.
The Consultant Pharmacist will provide resident counselling and medication information in-services to residents and family members as requested.
